I am directed by the Board of Trade to advert to

You your letter of the 15th February (No.2163) with its en- closures, relative to a proposed Trade Lark Ürdinance for

69-18

Hong Kong.

The Board note that there is no special provision in the draft with regard to Cotton marks such as that con- tained in clause 10(2) of the draft Trade Mark Urdinance for Southern Nigeria, copy of which was enclosed in your letter of the 5th August last, (No.22092), and in view of the correspondence which passed between the Lanchester

IT SV

Chamber of Commerce, the Colonial Office and this Depart- ment on the subject prior to the settlement of the terms of that Ordinance, I am to suggest, for Lord Crewe's con- sideration, that it might be well if a similar provision were inserted in the ürdinance now in question.

Subject to this observation, the Board do not desire

to raise any objection to the draft Ordinance which em- bodies in general, with certain variations referred to in the memorandum of the Attorney General of the Colony, the provisions of the United Kingdom Trade Marks Act of 1905.

I have the honour to be,

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Jeo. J. Stanley
